Having lived in
New York, California, Pennsylvania and North Carolina, when it
came time to retire we were looking for the perfect place for
us – no snow or ice, great recreational opportunities, good golf
courses and most of all, affordable living costs. We chose the
Tampa, Florida area and it was ideal for about 18 months or until
the hurricanes of 2003 and 2004 hit and caused huge increases
in property taxes and homeowner’s and auto insurance. That’s
when we realized we needed to go back to square one and begin
our search once again.
Retirement Living Magazine suggested South Georgia so we contacted
Triple Crown Hometowns Retirement Development Partnership and
received an information packet which was so inviting that we
immediately scheduled a trip to see what the Valdosta and surrounding
areas had to offer. It took just one day to realize that everything
we wanted was right here in Lowndes County and because Valdosta
is located to conveniently to I-75, we could still remain in
close touch with not only Florida friends but those in other
areas as well.
That all happened almost four years ago and we are as happy
in Valdosta today as we were when we first moved here. The climate
is terrific, the people are warm and welcoming, a small town
atmosphere still remains even though the area is growing by leaps
and bounds with a great revitalized downtown area with shopping,
dining, and entertainment, all sorts of cultural opportunities
throughout the communities, the University is a major plus for
us as well as the great medical facilities. South Georgia really
has it all. I would strongly recommend to retirees who are looking
for an active life style at an affordable price to relocate here!
